The American Indian Center at UNC Chapel Hill invites applications from undergraduate students for a paid service internship during Summer 2017.
The 2017 paid summer internship program provides professional development for undergraduate students interested in serving American Indian populations. Interns will have an exciting opportunity to travel to several tribal communities throughout North Carolina during the summer to learn about community-led health and wellness initiatives. Interns will work a maximum of 40 hours per week ($4,000 total by the completion of the program) for the eight-week period, May 22 – July 14, 2017, with a Certificate Ceremony on July 21. All travel expenses will be covered by the American Indian Center, separately from the $4,000 intern stipend the student will receive.
This service internship program provides an opportunity for students to develop a better understanding of the Native community and student engagement initiatives of the American Indian Center, including the Healthy Native North Carolinians Network, NC Native Asset Coalition, Sacred Hoop of Native Health & Wellbeing, and Carolina Horizons.
The mission of the American Indian Center is to bridge the richness of Native cultures with the strengths of Carolina in teaching, education and service.
Eligibility Requirements
- Undergraduate students currently enrolled at UNC Chapel Hill
- Availability for the summer (May 22-July 14, 2017; Certificate Ceremony July 21)
- Commitment to serving or demonstrated history serving American Indian populations
