Celebrating American Indian Heritage Month

Nov 1, 2021 - Nov 30, 2021

UNC American Indian Center Celebrates American Indian Heritage Month

Established in 1990 under the leadership of President George H.W. Bush, the month of November is officially declared as a time to reflect on and acknowledge the past, present and future contributions of American Indians to our country.

A list of events throughout the month of November can be accessed here: AIHM 2021 Calendar FINAL

We also want to take this time to provide a few updates about the American Indian Center operations for this academic year.  The AIC continues to provide a full portfolio of programming and activities for with the leadership of AIC staff members Jillian Ransom McNeill, Qua Lynch Adkins and Jesalyn Keziah.  Joining the AIC staff in a consulting role are long-time UNC staff members and AIC supporters Brandi Brooks Davis and Dr. Marcus Collins. Dr. Joseph Jordan, Vice Provost for Academic and Community Engagement provides general oversight and supervision for the AIC and leadership team.

As we kick off American Indian Heritage Month, we are also excited to announce the next steps in our search for a new director of the American Indian Center.  We anticipate launching our search in the month of November and look forward to inviting our community to connect to this important process.  Please spread the word and encourage qualified candidates to consider applying for the vital role on our campus when the position posting is live.

Happy American Indian Heritage Month and blessings for the remainder of the year!

AIC Staff and Consulting Team
